IL FOTO Contest Winner!!!

Today I was so excited to head down to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to take part in the draw for the IL FOTO wedding package give away. The winner is Candace & Mike, and they're getting married on September 25, 2009!!

Joel, Manny and myself are planning on meeting Candace and Mike ASAP to start the planning. I can't wait to meet them!!

The earnings from this contest works out to something like $42,000!!!! I'm so stoked to be a part of something this big - I can't even describe how excited I am!!

Support Kiss for a Cure!!

Many of you know that Joel, Manny and myself have donated a photography package to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation for them to use as a raffle at the Wonderful Wedding Show this weekend (IL FOTO). It's been so exciting to hear how things are going at their booth - the amount of "Kiss for a Cure" sign ups have completely blown them away!

Thank so much to everyone who has purchased raffle tickets and who have signed up to use "Kiss for a Cure". You can't possibly know how much of an impact every contribution makes.

I am extremely honored to be a part of this project. We've been working on The W List for quite some time now, and it's exciting to finally see it take form.

Marlene Fast - amazing images from Africa!

Tonight, myself along with some other photographer friends (Joel Ross, Manuel Sousa, Patty Boge & Jeremy Dueck) headed out to see our friend Marlene Fast open her art exhibit. The images are on display at the Steinbach Art Council, and are from her recent trip to Africa.

Simply amazing!! Marlene - I'm super impressed with the work! Those shots make me NEED to check out Africa!

Anyone who has some time should take some time to check out her images. They're for sale too, and would make for some amazing artwork for your home or office.

Weddingbells - Ask the Expert

The new Weddingbells issue is now on the stands! I'm excited to announce that one of my couples from 2008 is featured in the "real weddings" section in the magazine, as well as the website. CLICK here to see Pam & Juan's "CULTURAL FUSION" feature.

Also, I was asked to take part in a new section called "Wedding Q&A". In this section, 3 experts share the answer to some commonly asked questions. I'm honored to share this section with 2 other amazing wedding vendors. Both 7th Avenue Fashions and Madeline's Weddings are amongst my favorite wedding vendors :-)

Introducing MEDIA FUSION!

Happy New Year everyone!!

For a few months I've been waiting eagerly for my brand new camera to arrive, and early in December it finally came! This camera is the highly antiipated Canon 5DMK2. Not only is the 5DMK2 capable of taking outstanding still photography, but it also has the capability of capturing video in full 1080p high definition!

As our industry witnesses the fusion of motion video and stills photography, this is an extremely exciting time to be a photographer. To make the most of my new camera, I'm introducing a brand new collection of products that I'll be calling MEDIA FUSION.

By merging motion video, audio, and stills photography, a whole new world of options become possible. These media products are not meant to take the place of a videographer - rather, they are meant to be an extension to the amazing collection of stills that we capture on your wedding day.

At Shannon & Fernando's wedding, I was capturing HD video clips during the photo session without anyone knowing :-) Here's a short video that I put together today as I worked towards improving my video editing skills in Final Cut Pro.

Word travels fast!

The IL FOTO press release only happened about a week ago, and already it's being noticed in places even beyond Winnipeg. Many of us professional photographers belong to organizations that help us continue getting better at what we do. One of them is DWF. The DWF newsletter just went out to their 5,000 professional photographer members, and the 3 of us were pretty stoked to see mention of IL FOTO!

I really hope that IL FOTO will inspire others around the world to do something similar. There are so many professional photographers globally - how cool would it be if every one of them started to use their talents to help charity?

A lot of people think that supporting a charity means that you need to provide financial support. This is not necessarily so. There are so many things that these organizations need, and anyone who is willing to donate their talents and skills can make a huge difference even if they don't have the ability to offer financial help.
